INTERPOL

Taking Action Against the Sinaloa
Cartel, One of the World’s
Largest Transnational Drug Cartels

The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is an anti-crime organization that enables its 196 member countries to share and access information on criminals. The organization’s purpose is to make the world a safer place by ensuring cooperation among the police forces of its member states. Since its founding in 1923, INTERPOL has been a vital organization in the fight against international crime.

At BBALMUN’26, INTERPOL will target the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world’s most powerful and influential cartels. The cartel was formed in Culiacán, Sinaloa in the 1980s and, since then, it has been increasing its influence. The Sinaloa Cartel’s main activity is smuggling drugs such as cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The cartel is also known for its infamous leader and drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. In this year’s edition of BBALMUN, delegates will try to put an end to the cartel’s illegal activities by developing new and effective solutions.
